West Hempstead Athletes Make Next Steps Official At June Signing Day
Signing day took place at West Hempstead High School this month, starting the college careers of varsity athletes.

WEST HEMPSTEAD, NY — June 15 was signing day at West Hempstead Secondary School, as the school district honored varsity athletes who will be playing their sports in college.
The ceremony was attended by family, friends, coaches, teachers and faculty from West Hempstead, as well as the athletes themselves, with all of the attendees gathered to celebrate the dedication and perseverance the students had exhibited throughout their high school careers and the things they had managed to achieve as a result of those characteristics.
“West Hempstead Secondary School congratulates these outstanding student-athletes and looks forward to following their future accomplishments as they continue their journeys as Rams alumni,” the district said in a statement.

The athletes continuing on into college include:
Karen Orozco-Castro: Canisius University, cross-country

Fredi Castro-Fuentes: Molloy University, track and field
Johanna Fray: Iona University, track and field
Angel Guzman: La Roche University, soccer
Jayden Higginson: Nassau Community College, football
Kayden Nuzzi: Carroll University, lacrosse
Elizabeth Poirot: Mercy College, lacrosse
“Throughout their time at West Hempstead Secondary School, these student-athletes have represented the Rams with pride, demonstrating leadership, sportsmanship, and a commitment to excellence both on and off the field,” the district said. “Their accomplishments reflect years of hard work and determination, as well as the support of their families, coaches, and educators. The annual College Signing Day celebration served as an opportunity for the school community to acknowledge the students’ successes and wish them continued achievement at the collegiate level.”
