RYE, NY — A special guest appearance will help bring a special season to a close.
The Westchester Chamber Music Society will welcome the Amerigo Trio, joined by violinist Lisa Eunsoo Kim, for a May 17 concert in Rye that will close the second half of the group's 75th anniversary season. The performance is scheduled for 4 p.m. at Congregation Emanu-El of Westchester.
The program will feature works by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, Ludwig van Beethoven, Antonín Dvořák, Osvaldo Golijov and Jean Françaix. Listed selections include Mozart's Piano Sonata in A Major, K. 331, arranged for violin duet, Beethoven's "Eyeglasses" Duo in E-flat Major, WoO 32, Dvořák's Terzetto in C Major, Op. 74, Golijov's Tenebrae (2002) and Françaix's String Trio (1933).
The concert will be followed by a reception with the artists celebrating the Society's 75th season and honoring the legacy of Dr. Caroline Bauman, who led WCMS for more than half a century.
New York Philharmonic Concertmaster Glenn Dicterow formed the Amerigo Trio with violist Karen Dreyfus and cellist Inbal Segev following a collaboration at the Bowdoin International Chamber Music Festival, according to the announcement. The ensemble has appeared at venues including the Castleton Festival, Symphony Space and the Phillips Collection. The Strad praised the trio for its "personality, purpose and captivating energy."
The Washington Post said, "Dicterow's sweet, large, tightly focused tone gave the ensemble a rock-solid leading voice… It was in its finely woven blend of timbres and rapport that the trio most deeply satisfied." The trio is named for explorer Amerigo Vespucci and is dedicated to exploring the string trio repertoire, according to the release.
Kim joined the New York Philharmonic in 1994 and became Associate Principal of the Second Violin Group in 2003, according to the announcement. The release says she has performed internationally with artists including Yo-Yo Ma, Garrick Ohlsson and Glenn Dicterow, and has appeared as a soloist with the Seoul National Philharmonic and the North Carolina Symphony. Kim has been on the faculty of the Manhattan School of Music since 1999.
