TOWN OF RYE, NY — The New York State Police say that troopers from Tarrytown arrested arrested 48-year-old Jose Luis Dorado-Flores, of Stamford, Connecticut, for aggravated DWI on the NYS Thruway, in the town of Rye.
On Thursday, around 6:46 p.m., troopers responded to a two-vehicle crash on I-287 east, near I-95, in Rye.
Once at the scene, troopers spoke to the driver of a 2022 Chevrolet Silverado, which had been sideswiped by a 2018 Honda CRV. The driver of the Silverado told police that the driver of the Honda had left the scene.
Troopers soon found the Honda several miles away, traveling on I-95, in the village of Port Chester, according to troopers.
Once the Honda was stopped, troopers interviewed the driver, identified as Dorado-Flores, and noticed signs of impairment. A breath test was administered, which indicated alcohol impairment, police said.
Dorado-Flores was arrested for DWI and taken to SP New Rochelle for processing, where he registered a blood alcohol concentration of 0.21 percent, nearly three times the legal limit of 0.08 percent, according to NYSP.
He was also issued several traffic tickets, including leaving the scene of a property damage accident. Dorado-Flores was released to a sober third party and is due in Rye Town Court on May 29.
State police say that there were no reported injuries to Dorado-Flores or to the driver of the Silverado, who were the only occupants in their vehicles.
NYSP urges drivers to use the free STOP-DWI Have a Plan app to help them get home safely. The app is available for Apple and Android smartphones, and allows users to contact a taxi service or ride share, program a designated-driver list, or report a suspected impaired driver.
