Today's riddle: Why was the scarecrow given an award? 🤔 (Answer below!)
1. Aly & Joshua Closes, Framebridge Opens (ryerecord.com) — Downtown Rye is seeing big changes, with Aly & Joshua closing its Purdy Avenue shop while continuing online, and Framebridge opening a new framing store at 27 Purchase Street. A proposed mixed-use project at Purdy and Purchase is on hold due to the city's development moratorium, even as construction resumes on new apartments and storefronts at 11–15 Purdy Avenue after design changes to address underground water.
2. Playland Has a Good 2026 Summer Season (yonkerstimes.com) — Playland in Rye just wrapped a strong 2026 summer, with attendance jumping to more than 320,000 visitors and admissions revenue nearly tripling over last year. County Executive Ken Jenkins credits staff, local youth workers, and groups like Friends of Rye Playland, and says the park will finish the season with Scared by the Sound before gearing up for 2027.
3. Rye Girls Soccer Stays Undefeated with Win over Somers (myrye.com) — Rye's girls soccer team stayed unbeaten with a dominant 5–0 home win over Somers at Nugent Stadium, with four Garnets getting on the scoresheet. Now 8-0-2, they're back on their home field Monday, October 5, hosting undefeated Byram Hills at 5 p.m., giving local fans another big matchup to catch in person.
4. Judge Denies Con Edison Bid to Toss Jeanine Pirro's Rye Fall Lawsuit as Premature; Utility Seeks Default Against Contractor (talkofthesound.com) — A Westchester judge has kept Jeanine Pirro's lawsuit over her 2025 fall in Rye alive against Con Edison, ruling the utility's attempt to dismiss it was premature. The City of Rye remains dismissed from the case, but the suit continues over conditions near Purchase Street and Library Place, with new court dates set this month that could shape responsibility for the incident.
5. Playland Bathing Pavilion Captured by Stacey Massey (myrye.com) — A local photographer's image of the Playland Bathing Pavilion is being highlighted in MyRye.com's "Art of Rye" feature, showcasing familiar shoreline views around town. The piece also introduces Rye resident Stacey Massey, whose dawn photo walks along Long Island Sound celebrate the beauty of early mornings in Rye and invite neighbors to suggest more locally themed artwork.
