WESTCHESTER COUNTY, NY — Rye and Harrison high schools will face off again this fall in a blood donation competition organized with the New York Blood Center.
Donations are counting from Wednesday, Oct. 7, through Tuesday, Oct. 13, in Westchester County. The winner is set to be announced during "The Game" on Saturday, Oct. 17, at Rye High School.
The second annual "Harrison vs. Rye High School Blood Donation Competition" is designed as a community challenge tied to the schools' long-running football rivalry. Students, families, alumni, faculty and other community members are encouraged to donate blood in support of hospital patients while also backing their school.
New York Blood Center said the competition was inspired by the local tradition known as "The Game." In 2025, the event generated 71 blood donations, which the announcement said helped impact the lives of nearly 200 patients. Harrison High School won last year's competition and took home the trophy.
"We are thrilled to once again partner with Rye and Harrison High Schools for this spirited competition," said Jeannie Mascolino, Vice President, Blood Operations at New York Blood Center. "What began as a friendly rivalry has become a meaningful opportunity for students, families, and community members to come together and make a lifesaving difference."
Residents can take part by donating at the Rye Donor Center or at local blood drives hosted by the City of Rye and the Town of Harrison. The City of Rye blood drive is scheduled for Thursday, Oct. 8, 2026, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Rye City Hall, 1051 Boston Post Road, Rye. The Town of Harrison blood drive is set for Thursday, Oct. 8, 2026, from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the Veterans Memorial Building, 210 Halstead Ave., Harrison.
The Rye Donor Center will accept donations throughout the competition period from Oct. 7, 2026, through Oct. 13, 2026, at 601 Midland Ave., Entrance 2, Rye.
