1 Motorcyclist Killed, 2 Injured In Separate Crashes In Suffolk

HOLTSVILLE, NY — A motorcyclist was killed and two others were seriously injured in separate crashes in Suffolk County on Saturday night, police said.
Police said that at about 11:25 p.m., Luis Cancio was driving a 2021 Volkswagen Atlas eastbound on Fairview Avenue, and was attempting to make a left turn onto Country Road 83 when his vehicle was struck by a 2021 Ducati motorcycle traveling southbound.
The motorcyclist, Frank Shepard, 28, of Mount Sinai, was transported to Stony Brook University Hospital where he was pronounced dead, police said. Cancio, 41, of Glen Head, was not injured in the crash, according to police.

Both vehicles were impounded for safety checks, police said.
In a second crash earlier in the evening, two motorcyclists were seriously injured in Ronkonkoma, according to police.

Police said that Thomas Dolan, 31, of Oakdale, and Robert Toomey, 58, of Smithtown, were transported to Stony Brook University Hospital for treatment after their vehicles collided on Raynor Avenue, north of South Second Street, at about 8:30 a.m.
The motorcycles, a 1989 Harley Davidson and an unregistered homemade motorcycle, were impounded for safety checks, police said.
