1 Seriously Injured In Selden Crash, Driver Charged With DWI: PD

A pickup truck struck another truck just before 9 p.m., and a total of three people were injured on Thursday, Suffolk police said.

SELDEN, NY —A 44-year-old man has been charged with driving while intoxicated after a car crash that seriously injured a man in Selden on Thursday night, Suffolk County police said.

Police said Oscar Renee Castro-Mendez was backing his 2006 Ford F-150 pickup truck into a driveway on Boyle Road when it was struck by a northbound pickup truck, a 2018 Ford 250, that was being driven by Kevin Jones just before 9 p.m.

Castro-Mendez, 45, of Selden, had “serious injuries” and was transported to Stony Brook University Hospital Medical Center, police said, adding that two of his passengers were also transported to the hospital, but with “non-life-threatening injuries.”

Jones, of Selden, is scheduled to be arraigned at First District Court in Central Islip on Aug. 13.

Both trucks were impounded for safety checks, police said. Detectives are asking anyone with information about the crash to call the 6th Squad at 631-854-8652.
