19-Year-Old Woman Critically Injured In Crash Into LIRR Yard
BREAKING: The woman's vehicle went airborne over a fence and struck a piece of snow-fighting equipment in the LIRR yard early Friday.
RONKONKOMA, NY – A 19-year-old woman was critically injured in a crash into the Long Island Rail Road's Ronkonkoma Yard early Friday, authorities said.
The woman was driving a 2012 Kia Optima westb on Railroad Avenue near the intersection of Knickerbocker Avenue when she lost control of her vehicle around 1:30 a.m., Aaron Donovan, a spokesman for the LIRR, said.
The car struck an embankment and then went airborne, sailing over a fence and then striking a piece of snow-fighting equipment parked in the yard, which is located just east of the Ronkonkoma LIRR station.

The driver, who authorities have not identified, was taken to Stony Brook University Hospital where she is listed in critical condition.
The impact from the collision damaged the windows and rooftop of the snow-fighting equipment, Donovan said. There was no impact to train service.

The MTA Police are investigating what caused the crash.
