6 Injured, Hospitalized In Multi-Car LIE Chain Reaction Crash: Police
Traffic was slowing when a sand truck did not stop, causing a chain-reaction crash, police say.
ISLANDIA, NY — An Islandia woman was critically injured in a six-vehicle crash in Islandia on Wednesday morning, Suffolk police said.
Amanda McDermott, 35, of Mastic Beach, was driving a 2006 Ford Econoline van when the traffic slowed and she was involved in a chain reaction crash approximately a quarter-mile east of Old Nichols Road at 10:45 a.m., police said.

brought to local hospitals for treatment of injuries that are not life-threatening, police said.
Two commercial vehicles were given safety checks at the scene by the Suffolk County Motor Carrier Safety Unit. Two other involved vehicles were impounded for safety checks. The Econoline van is registered to Independent Group Home Living.
