SELDEN, NY — An 81-year-old Long Island man was found dead after firefighters extinguished a blaze at his home on Wednesday night, Suffolk police said.
Officers responded to a 911 call alerting them to a fire at a home on Magnolia Drive in Selden at about 6:20 p.m., and Earl Rahman was found dead inside, said police, adding that both homicide and arson squad detectives were called to the scene to investigate the fire. Police could not confirm a report that the fire broke out in the basement of the home.
The fire drew several departments to the scene, according to a witness.
No other injuries were reported.
A preliminary investigation by detectives has determined the cause of the fire to be "non-criminal in nature," police said.
No other information was immediately available from police.
