Beaches Closed In Ronkonkoma, Sayville Over High Bacteria Levels: Officials

Ronkonkoma Beach was closed under the same conditions two weeks ago and then again last week.

RONKONKOMA, NY — The Suffolk County Department of Health Services is advising that Ronkonkoma Beach and Sayville Marina Park Beach in Sayville are closed to bathing due to findings of bacterial levels exceeding acceptable criteria.

The beaches will reopen when further testing reveals that the bacteria have subsided to acceptable levels.

Ronkonkoma Beach was closed under the same conditions two weeks ago and then again last week.

Suffolk Department of Health Services Commissioner Dr. Gregson Pigott, advises that bathing in bacteria-contaminated water can result in gastrointestinal illness, as well as infections of the eyes, ears, nose, and throat.
