Ronkonkoma Beach Closed To Bathing Again For 3rd Time In A Month

It will reopen when further testing reveals that the bacteria have subsided to acceptable levels.

RONKONKOMA, NY — Ronkonkoma Beach was one of four beaches in Suffolk County closed to bathing on Wednesday due to findings of bacterial levels exceeding acceptable criteria, the county's Department of Health Services said.

The other beaches include Sayville Marina Park Beach, Bayport Beach, and Goldstar Battalion Beach in Huntington.

The beaches will reopen when further testing reveals that the bacteria have subsided to acceptable levels.

Ronkonkoma Beach has been closed and reopened twice before this summer.

Health Services Commissioner Dr. Gregson Pigott said

bathing in bacteria-contaminated water can result in gastrointestinal illness, as well as infections of the eyes, ears, nose, and throat.
