Katrina Perkins - Dives into Acting

Katrina Perkins, an actor from Lake Ronkonkoma, is diving in head first into a full-time acting career.

If you had to guess how many people dream of being an actor it would probably be well in the millions. For every actor working there are tens of thousands out of work or barely earning enough to eat. But the dream of someday walking the red carpet to eventually accept that award is what keeps them motivated.

Katrina Perkins, of Lake Ronkonkoma, is no different. Originally from Ft. Pierce, Florida, she found herself married at age 21, living in Los Angeles. It was there Katrina began studying acting at Playhouse West, a famous acting school with noted alumni such as James Franco, Ashley Judd, etc. Katrina, who at a young age discovered the arts through her love of poetry, realized she had found her true self, while her teachers quickly cited her natural ability. Life took a turn and she found herself back in Florida, saying goodbye to acting, crying on the couch watching The Oscars, thinking she had left her dream behind.

At another turn, Katrina found herself in New York and back to pursuing her dream. With the typical amount of rejection and feeling of going in circles, she wasn’t in it all the way. It took the passing of her Father to reinvigorate her. Tragedy has a way of waking us up. She went full throttle into the acting career. With her eye on the prize, she learned how to budget, make a plan, and focus all of her energy on her goals.

She is still learning. “It’s easy to forget the importance of the business end of this profession, you need help”, says Katrina.

Enlisting the marketing team at BBR Productions in Holbrook, www.bbrproductions.com, to do the networking and legwork to keep her in view of decision makers in the business, Katrina has learned to strengthen her skills. She has worked hard to master many accents, which help her with voice over work and audio books as well as acting parts. The most important thing she has learned, says Katrina “in order for people to be interested in you, you have to show some interest in them. It’s a two way street”. Her focus now is to find an agent and get steady work.

Katrina considers every acting job part of the process, whether it’s background work, (recently on NBC’s “SMASH”), or just being around the set with other creative people. “It’s all a good day’s work and brings you closer to your goal”. Her biggest accomplishment thus far was a role in the independent feature film, “Dissociative” (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1264079/?ref_=fn_al_nm_3a) which was shown at The Cannes film festival. Unfortunately she couldn’t afford to go to France at the time of its showing.

Katrina hopes to one day have the money to attend the next Cannes Festival, where she can pick up her Independent Spirit Award.

Next up for Katrina is a stage adaptation of Hamlet at The Rose Theater in Holbrook, where she will play Ophelia. Keep your eye out for Katrina at www.katrinaperkins.com.

Her star is on the rise.
