Brookhaven Town Police Blotter: March 26
A snapshot of some recent police activity in the town.
BROOKHAVEN TOWN, NY — The reports below are excerpts from Suffolk police's 4th, 5th, 6th, and 7th precincts that comprise Brookhaven Town.
Criminal charges do not indicate a conviction.
- Two local men have been charged in a Bohemia burglary from back in January, police said. Anthony DeGroff, 28, of Port Jefferson broke into a home on Karshick Street in Bohemia on Jan. 21 and stole coins, while Javid Abedi, 28, of Holtsville drove him away, according to police. Both were charged with second-degree burglary, said police, adding that DeGroff also faces an additional count of second-degree burglary for breaking into a home on Enfield Lane in Hauppauge on Jan. 12 and stealing jewelry. DeGroff is due back in court on April 5, and Abedi on April 6, according to online court records.
- A man told police he was attacked and punched in the face at James Joyce Pub and Restaurant on South Ocean Avenue in Patchogue at about 2 a.m. last Sunday. He did not immediately go to the hospital, but instead sought medical help from a doctor after the assault, police said.
- A man was taken to Stony Brook University Hospital after he was punched in the face at Mr. Lucky's on Mooney Pond Road in Farmingville at about 3:30 a.m. on Sunday.
- A 16-year-old from Marietta, GA, was arrested in North Bellport and was charged with third-degree burglary after police said he was caught with stolen goods from a location on Route 112 in East Patchogue on Sunday. Police do not release the names of minors charged with crimes.
- Nearly $5,000 worth of Bonzai trees were stolen from Bonzai Boys on Montauk Highway in East Patchogue at about 2 a.m. on Sunday.
- A man was taken to Stony Brook University Hospital after he was approached by three males and then stabbed while out on a walk on Express Drive North in Ronkonkoma at about 11:20 p.m. on Monday.
- A brush fire off of Middle Country Road in Centereach was extinguished by the Centereach Fire Department just before midnight on Monday. It has been classified as a fifth-degree arson, police said.
- A person was taken to Stony Brook University Hospital after being struck in the arm with an ax at a home on Gerda Court in Selden on Tuesday, police said. Tomas Nemcok, 31, of Selden was charged with assault with the intent to cause physical injury with a weapon in connection with the incident, according to police. An order of protection has been issued and Nemcok, who was released on his own recognizance, is due back in court on April 5, according to online court records.
- A Ronkonkoma man was charged with assault on Thursday after police say he scratched and bit a security guard at Southside Hospital in Bay Shore, causing multiple lacerations to his arm back in November. Anthony Jenkins, 38, will be arraigned on April 13, according to online court records.
- A Calverton man robbed a man at gunpoint in Mastic Beach back in January, police said. Joseph Panettiere, 32, pointed a BB gun at a man on Forest Road and stole all of his cash and credit cards along with another person on Jan. 16, according to police. He was charged with first-degree robbery, police said. No other details were immediately available.
