Car Overturns on LIE

BREAKING: The driver managed to escape serious injury early Thursday.

A man managed to escape serious injury after his car overturned on the eastbound Long Island Expressway early Thursday.

The Ronkonkoma Fire Department was alerted to the crash between exits 60 and 61 just before 2 a.m. Upon arrival, Lt. Joe Mcgrath advised incoming emergency personnel that the driver had managed to free himself from the car with only minor injuries.

The driver was transported to Stony Brook University Hospital via a Ronkonkoma Fire Department ambulance.

Firefighters secured the vehicle and Suffolk County Police Emergency Service units uprighted the car.

All eastbound LIE lanes except the HOV lanes near the crash scene were closed for a few hours after the crash, police said.
