(Patch Media)

  • Chris Herren speaks at Sachem High School East.
  • Farmingville couple who was scammed gets money back.
  • We have the scoop on where you can see Santa this season.

But first, today's weather:

Mostly sunny; windy, cooler. High: 44 low: 29.

Here are the top four stories today in Sachem:

  1. Chris Herren speaks at Sachem High School East. The former NBA player shared a powerful message on substance abuse and recovery to the audience of 10th graders. Herren "empowered students to rethink how they look at addiction" and through sharing his own experiences, touched on topics like drinking and drug use, peer pressure and bullying, officials said. 2. Farmingville couple who was scammed gets money back. The Suffolk County DA recovered over $330,000 of stolen funds from a Kolkata-based scammer who convinced the couple that money had been mistakenly wired into their bank account and they needed to return it. They sent over the money through a crypto wallet and the scammer locked them out of the account. "Foreign national scammers often prey upon our residents under the belief that even if their crimes are discovered, they will be beyond the reach of American law enforcement," he said. "Here, our Financial Crimes Bureau swiftly teamed up with the Suffolk County Police Department, and we were able to recover the victims' funds within a matter of days. I remind everyone to be cautious about this kind of predatory behavior by opportunistic swindlers." (Sachem Patch)
