Connetquot Students Spread Love And Kindness

The color of the day was purple as Connetquot Central School District students showed their commitment to being kind and preventing bullying during P.S. I Love You Day, held on Feb. 10.

A national movement, the goal of P.S. I Love You Day is to bring awareness to the importance of mental health, decrease bullying and to educate students on recognizing when another person needs help. Participants wear purple to symbolize fostering kindness and a welcoming environment.

At Oakdale-Bohemia Middle School, there were inspirational messages and words of kindness spread throughout the building. Students added to the inspirational message by creating a paper chain of kindness made up of positive affirmations.

At Ronkonkoma Middle School, students had the opportunity to write cards with three adjectives to describe a person. The recipient’s name was included on a purple flag that fluttered at the school’s entrance, and the card was placed on a P.S., I Love You wall for peers to read. School social worker Kimberly Nofi also reported that every student was given a card with an inspirational message to start their day.
