Ronkonkoma firefighters needed to remove the roof of the vehicle in order to free the driver, who police described as an adult male. A helicopter landed at Cayuga Elementary School to transport the driver to the hospital, but the flight medic determined the man was too unstable to fly.

The man was taken to Stony Brook University Hospital via a Ronkonkoma Fire Department ambulance and is currently in serious condition.
