Drunk Driver Drove Over 90 MPH The Wrong Way on LIE: Sheriff
A deputy sheriff's swift intervention averted a potentially fatal crash early Thursday, authorities say.
A 30-year-old woman drunkenly drove more than 90 mph in the wrong direction on the Long Island Expressway early Thursday, authorities said.
Christina Sandolo, of Coram, is charged with DWI, reckless endangerment as well as multiple vehicle and traffic violations.
According to the Suffolk County Sheriff's Office, Sandolo was driving a Nissan Altima westbound in the eastbound HOV lane on the LIE near Exit 62–Nicolls Road in Holtsville around 2:30 a.m.

Deputy Sheriff Thomas Young spotted the vehicle and was quickly able to bring to a stop. Young's "swift intervention averted a potentially fatal motor vehicle crash," a press release from the sheriff's office says.
Sandolo was determined to be intoxicated, and she was arrested at the scene, authorities said. She was due to be arraigned Thursday in First District Court in Central Islip.
