Police Investigating Centereach Fire

The fire was reported just before 6 a.m., drawing area firefighters, Suffolk police say.

CENTEREACH, NY — Suffolk police arson detectives are investigating a fire that started at a home in Centereach early Tuesday morning, a spokeswoman said.

The fire broke out just before 6 a.m. at a home on Pleasant Avenue, drawing area firefighters to the scene.

Centereach Fire Department officials said responding units saw heavy smoke and flames from a distance and re-activated the alarm as a working fire.

The chief reported the fire was fully-involved inside of a large, detached garage, and firefighters began to attack the fire with deck guns and hose lines upon, while the Selden Fire Department used its master stream to help extinguish the blaze and get the fire under control, according to department officials.

It is not clear if anyone was home at the time of the fire
