Armed Forces Day

The event is based on the WWII Memorial Tree that was planted for the men returning from WWII service.

Things were tight, and there was not much to be spared. The tree was donated by a local man in Lake Ronkonkoma.

A brochure will be available at the event that explains this and many other facts. A few of the original Veterans that were honored with this tree will be at the event, and families of some who have passed.

A Community Heritage Annual Homemade Ornament Presentation will be held on Saturday May 19, Armed Forces Day, from 4-6 p.m.

The American Legion will be leading all official ceremonies. Followed by the other groups, Sachem North Choir, Sachem East Brass Street Boys, Ronkonkoma FD, Nesconset & Lakeland FD, ourselves, LR Historical Society, LR Homemakers, St. Mary's Episcopal Church, LI Blue Star Moms, Chapter NY6, Gold Star Moms, and others as they come forward.

The main reason for the event will be to honor  Veterans at the Lake Ronkonkoma World War II Memorial Tree (NW corner of Hawkins Avenue & Portion Rd) by making an ornament up to 12"x 12" for the tree.

Decorate in red, white & blue, gold silver or yellow, and honor a person, event, or branch of the service.

Join with your townsfolk to see the tree in all its glory for the Memorial Day Parade. Clean Up (help us if you can) and return of ornaments, if wanted, will be on Saturday 6/2/12 9 am.
