Fire Behind Merrimac Elementary School In Holbrook School Doused Saturday Night

HOLBROOK, NY — A fire broke out near a playground at Merrimac Elementary School in Holbrook on Saturday, but it was quickly knocked down, officials said.

Suffolk police responded to a report of a fire near the playground on Broadway Avenue at 5:38 p.m., a spokeswoman said, adding that officers found a "small, contained fire and extinguished it."

The Holbrook Fire Department also responded to the scene, she said.

Sachem Central School District officials said the fire was "near the back of the building" and "it was quickly extinguished."

No one was injured.
