Holbrook Man Wanted By Suffolk Police Crashes Car Into Gates At Hamptons Beach: Cops

He was found after a pickup in a previous Suffolk alert crashed through Gibson Beach's gate in Sagaponack, Southampton cops say.

HOLBROOK, NY — A Holbrook man being sought by Suffolk police in connection with a domestic dispute was nabbed after a 911 caller reported a pickup matching the description of the one he was in crashed through the gates of a beach in Sagaponack on Sunday, authorities said.

Suffolk police told the Southampton Town Police Department that officers were searching for Timothy Butler, 46, who was driving a 2014 Ram pickup truck and he was "believed to be suicidal and possibly armed," according to police.

Several patrol units were dispatched to search for Butler when the town's emergency communications division got a call about the pickup matching the description of one "that had driven through the gates at Gibson Beach," police said.

Officers responded, found the pickup, and confirmed Butler was driving, police said, adding, that he did not follow the officer's requests to get out of the pickup, and "believing he would harm himself," they "deployed less lethal methods" for Butler's protection.

Butler was being sought on felony charges, according to Southampton police.

Additional details about his apprehension were not provided.

Suffolk police said Butler was wanted in connection with a domestic disturbance and then fled.

A police spokeswoman declined to release the charges under consideration, only saying that the matter was under active investigation.

Butler was taken to a local hospital for treatment, police said, adding that he was charged with driving while intoxicated and resisting arrest, both misdemeanors. He might face additional charges, police said.

He will be transferred into the custody of Suffolk police, according to police.
