LI Man Charged With DWI After Fatal Hit-And-Run Crash: Police

The identity of the woman killed has not yet been released, police say.

RONKONKOMA, NY — A Ronkonkoma man was arrested and charged with driving while intoxicated early Sunday after leaving the scene of a fatal crash that killed a pedestrian, police said.

According to Suffolk County Police, the hit-and-run crash took place in Ronkonkoma, on Johnson Avenue between Pine Avenue and Ocean Avenue, at 1:30 a.m.

Wade Gagliano, 23, was driving a 2005 Lexus RX330 west on Johnson Avenue when he struck the female pedestrian, police said.

The pedestrian, who has not yet been identified by police, was pronounced dead at the scene by a physician assistant from the Office of the Suffolk County Medical Examiner, police said. Gagliano did not stay at the scene and was located a short time later, police said.

Detectives arrested Gagliano and charged him with leaving the scene of an incident resulting in death and DWI, police said.

He was held overnight at the Fourth Precinct and is scheduled to be arraigned at First District Court in Central Islip on Sunday, police said.
