LI Woman Drove Drunk, Crashed SUV Into Police Patrol Car: PD

RONKONKOMA, NY — A Hauppauge woman drove drunk and crashed her SUV into a police patrol car that was parked in Ronkonkoma Thursday night, Suffolk County police said.

Danielle Schimmel, 27, of Hauppauge was driving a 2019 GMC Acadia northbound on Ocean Avenue when she crashed it into a police patrol car at about 10:30 p.m., police said. The police car had its emergency lights activated and was parked facing east to block traffic at the scene of an earlier motor vehicle crash, just north of Erie Street, according to police.

Neither Schimmel or the officer was injured.

Schimmel was charged with Driving While Intoxicated. She is being held overnight at the 4th Precinct in Smithtown and is scheduled to be arraigned at First District Court in Central Islip on July Friday.
