Man Beats His Roommate to Death at Lake Ronkonkoma Adult Home: Police

BREAKING: A 73-year-old man is charged with murder after his 82-year-old roommate was found dead Saturday.

A 73-year-old man beat his roommate to death at a Lake Ronkonkoma assisted living facility and then jumped 15 feet from a second-floor window while trying to flee Saturday morning, police said.

During a welfare check, staff members at The Lake Shore Assisted Living Facility, located at 211 Lake Shore Road, found 82-year-old Francis McCaffrey unresponsive in his room at about 10:15 a.m.

Further investigation by Homicide Squad detectives revealed that Roger Diamond had repeatedly struck McCaffrey, causing his death.

Diamond fled the scene and jumped out of a second-floor window, approximately 15 feet from the ground, police said. Diamond was admitted to Stony Brook University Hospital for treatment of his injuries.

Diamond was charged with second degree murder and will be arraigned at a later date.

The cause of McCaffrey's death will be determined by the Office of the Suffolk County Medical Examiner.

The investigation is continuing.
