Man Killed in Suffolk County House Fire

The fire broke out Wednesday afternoon.

A man died after a fire ripped through a Centereach home on Wednesday afternoon.

The fire started around 2:40 p.m. at a home at 30 Minerva Lane, police said.

Centereach Fire Department chiefs arrived on the scene to find heavy smoke pouring from the home. Firefighters then made entry and removed a man from the basement of the home. The man was transported to Stony Brook University Hospital, where he was pronounced dead from his injuries.

No other injuries were reported. The Farmingville and Ronkonkoma fire departments helped battle the blaze.

Suffolk County Homicide and Arson Squad detectives are investigating the fire.

Police have not yet released any additional information on the fire or the identity of the victim.
