Man Killed in Hit-and-Run After Jumping Out of Moving Ambulance on Long Island: Police

The incident occurred on Nicolls Road Monday night.

HOLTSVILLE, NY- A Bay Shore man was struck and killed by a hit-and-run driver after he jumped out of a moving ambulance in Holtsville Monday night.

According to police, 51-year-old Frank Ligrnetta was in the back of an ambulance owned by Bay Shore-based Hunter EMS when he jumped from the rear door of the ambulance into southbound Nicolls Road, just north of Union Avenue, at about 6:55 p.m. Ligrnetta was pronounced dead at the scene.

The dark-colored sedan that struck Ligrnetta fled the scene, police said.

The ambulance was transporting Ligrnetta from Stony Brook University Hospital to Brunswick Hospital Center in Amityville, police said.

Detectives are asking anyone who may have witnessed this crash or has any other information about the incident to contact the Vehicular Crime Unit at 631-852-6555 or call anonymously to Crime Stoppers at 1-800-220-TIPS.
