Police ID Man Killed In Sunrise Highway Crash
A 47-year-old man has been identified as the person who was killed, Suffolk police said.

UPDATE: Michael Melchiore, 47, of Babylon, has been identified as the man who was killed in the crash on Sunrise Highway in Holbrook Monday morning.
HOLBROOK, NY —A man was killed and woman seriously injured when his car struck a flatbed truck on Sunrise Highway Monday morning, Suffolk police said.
Police said that just before 6 a.m., a man was driving a 2000 Mercury Grand Marquis west on Sunrise Highway when it struck the rear of a 2000 International Harvester flatbed truck that was disabled in the right lane between exits 52 and 51 in Holbrook.

The Mercury's driver, whose name is being held pending notification of next of kin, was pronounced dead at the scene by a physician assistant from the county Medical Examiner's office, police said. The man's passenger, Tisha Mannella, 42, of Mastic, was transported to Stony Brook University Hospital for treatment of serious injuries, police said.
The flatbed's driver, Shane Aiello, 54, of Farmingdale, was taken to Long Island Community Hospital in East Patchogue for treatment of minor injuries, police said. The Mercury was impounded for a safety check, police said, adding that the department's Motor Carrier Safety Section's officers performed a safety check on the flatbed at the scene and released the vehicle.
