Motorcyclist Killed In Crash With Car On Long Island Expressway In Islandia
Suffolk police said he had been speeding when the bike struck the rear of a Toyota Prius Sunday afternoon.
ISLANDIA, NY — A motorcyclist died Sunday in a crash with a car on the Long Island Expressway in Islandia , Suffolk police said.
Harvey Reaves was speeding on a 2008 Suzuki motorcycle on the eastbound lanes of the Long Island Expressway when he rear-ended a 2012 Toyota Prius just east of Old Nichols Road around 3:30 p.m. Sunday, police said. The collision sent the Prius veering into a concrete divider on the left side.
Reaves, 62, of Bay Shore, was taken by police helicopter to Stony Brook University Hospital where he died, police said. The 72-year-old driver of the Prius and a 71-year-old woman, both Miller Place residents, were taken to Stony Brook for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries, according to police.

The crash was one of three deadly ones over the weekend on Long Island. A second motorcyclist was killed in Garden City on Saturday, and a Commack teenager was killed in a single-car crash on the Southern State Parkway in Islip on Sunday.
Both vehicles were impounded for safety checks, police said.
