Nearly $10K Scammed From Older Adult Intercepted In Suffolk County: Cops

He sent nearly to a location in Bay Shore, but detectives from the Financial Crimes Unit prevented the Norton Anti-virus scam.

RONKONKOMA, NY — Nearly $10,000 in cash that an 82-year-old Louisiana man mailed as a part of a Norton Anti-virus scam was intercepted in Ronkonkoma on Friday, Suffolk police said.

Detectives from the department's Financial Crimes Unit were looking into a report that the Lafayette man sent $9,800 to a location on Union Boulevard in Bay Shore, and they intercepted the money at a location in Ronkonkoma at about 12:37 p.m., according to police.

Police would not say where the money was going or where it was intercepted.

Detectives plan to return the man's money, police said.
