HOLTSVILLE, NY — Officers were called in to action to help multiple drivers whose vehicles were disabled from running over metal debris on the Long Island Expressway in Holtsville on Tuesday night, Suffolk police said.

A passing motorist reported multiple vehicles disabled by the debris on the westbound side between exits 61 and 62 at around 9:30 p.m. on Tuesday, according to police.

Highway patrol officers then closed the right lane and helped motorists with changing tires and contacting tow trucks, police said, adding that workers from the state's Department of Transportation were also contacted and responded to remove the debris from the roadway.
