Patch Picks: Top 5 Places to Find a Deal

Sachem Patch fills you in on money-saving deals.

If your electric bill is getting out of control because you keep your AC on all day and all night, don’t fret because there is money to be saved in your neighborhood. This week we are telling you where to find something for almost nothing.

Sachem Patch picks the Top 5 Places to Find a Deal:

  1. Savers, 7001 Sunrise Highway, HolbrookThis super-sized thrift store has everything from clothing to furniture, and some items are brand new. People donate their new or gently used possessions to the Donation Centers at Savers and when the items sell, they give money back to local non-profits. So, when you find that Banana Republic blazer for $8, you can buy it and feel good about yourself because you are helping your community and being fashionable at the same time. Until July 23, you can get a Stamp Pass and receive a stamp for every $5 you spend at Savers, good for 30 percent off your purchase when you accumulate 15 stamps.
  2. Restore of Suffolk County, 2111 Lakeland Avenue, Ronkonkoma: Whether you are renovating an entire room in your house or if you just need to replace something that broke, Restore has a variety of brand new and used building materials for sale. The materials in this fully-stocked warehouse are donated to Habitat for Humanity so they don’t load up landfills. For instance, if you need a screen door, they are $15. If you need a bathroom sink, they are $10. And, light bulbs, they can be under $1. Merchandise changes daily, so you never know what you will find.
  3. Kohl’s, 106 Ronkonkoma Avenue, Lake Ronkonkoma: It seems like almost every day Kohl’s offers a coupon that you can print or cut out of a circular. And, for every $50 you spend, you receive $10 Kohl’s Cash to spend during your next visit. It is an endless cycle of fantastic frugality.
  4. Island 16, 185 Morris Avenue, HoltsvilleMovies can cost a bundle these days, especially with 3D options and specialty seating, but Island 16 can save you a few bucks. If you choose to go to the movies on a Tuesday, tickets are only $6. This discount is good for every show, all day, even 3D and Director’s Hall. You may never go to the movies on a Saturday again. On the other hand, you are on your own for refreshments.
  5. Sonoma Grill, 5745 Sunrise Highway, Holbrook: Saving all of this money will make you hungry, so you will be happy to find a discount at Sonoma Grill too. On Wednesday and Thursday, their price fix menu is available. The menu includes a choice of salad, a pasta dish or an entrée, and a dessert all for $14.95 plus tax. And, these menu items aren’t shoddy; there are even fish choices included.
