Patch Picks: Top 5 Places to Get a Burger
Sachem Patch recommends local burger joints.
Anyone can grill a burger, which you probably already know from the dozens of bar-b-ques you have attended this summer. But, can anyone make a burger that you will pay U.S. currency for and tell your friends about? This week we are telling you where to get a great burger in your neighborhood, and the list does not include your parents’ house.
Sachem Patch lists the Top 5 Places to Get a Burger:
- Burger Shack, 3672B Route 112, Coram: This local newcomer is quickly becoming a favorite with its list of tasty burgers. One popular choice is the Juicy Lucy that has melted cheese pouring out of the center of the meat. However, the piece de resistance at this burger joint is their 48 oz. Burger Challenge that dares participants to eat six half-ounce cheeseburger patties stacked high, chili cheese fries and a Shack Shake. If you finish it, and over a dozen people have tried and failed, you get the $19.99 meal for free, a t-shirt and your photo on the Wall of Success. Also, the owner is really friendly and he may make a trip over to your table to say hello and see how your burger is.
- T.G.I. Friday’s, 2320 North Ocean Ave., Farmingville: Aside from their Jack Daniel’s selections, people flock to Friday’s for their hearty burgers. Luckily, they recently added some new choices, including a New York Cheddar and Bacon Burger that comes with sweet chow-chow relish, whatever that is. If you sign up for their Give Me More Stripes program you can get points for the meals you purchase and receive coupons for free appetizers and desserts to complement your burger.
- Johnny’s Burgers, 2332 Middle Country Rd., Centereach: This throwback burger joint is playful, yet no nonsense. Oldies music plays in the background as you feast on either a single or double hamburger or cheeseburger. No muss. No fuss. Their fresh hand-cut fries are a great accompaniment; a large will feed your entire table. You may not see it on the menu, but there is a peanut butter shake to try as well.
- Home Run Burger, 1066 Main St., Holbrook: During the summer, you may not want to sit outside and eat anything, but there are tables with red umbrellas surrounding this eatery. Until it is at least cool out, venture inside and order from the budget-friendly menu. None of the specialty burgers will run you over five bucks, especially the Bacon Cheddar Ranch Burger that combines everything that was just mentioned with some red onion. They also have more than just the typical milkshake flavors; cherry, banana and coffee are interesting options.
- Bobby’s Burger Palace, 355 Smith Haven Mall, Lake Grove: With a celebrity chef owner, the burgers have to be good, right? Right and they can be “crunchified,” meaning that potato chips can be added to any burger. An assortment of zesty sauces can be found at your seat and tried on any burger you choose.
