Pedestrian Seriously Hurt in Hit-and-Run in Central Islip
Accident occurred on Carleton Avenue Sunday night, police say.
Police are searching for a hit-and-run driver who mowed down a pedestrian in Central Islip Sunday night.
According to police, Edgar Abrego, 25, of Central Islip, was crossing Carleton Avenue at Brightside Avenue when he was struck by a northbound vehicle that fled the scene at about 9:25 p.m. Abrego was transported by Suffolk County Police helicopter to Stony Brook University Hospital, where he was in serious condition and being treated for head injuries.
The incident is under investigation by the Vehicular Crime Unit. Anyone who may have witnessed or has information on this crash is asked to call the Vehicular Crime Unit at 631-852-6555 or anonymously to Crime Stoppers at 1-800-220-TIPS. All calls will be kept confidential.
