Police: 10-Year-Old Girl Impaled by Bike Brake Handle in Medford
Girl is seriously hurt after falling off bike Friday evening, police say.

A 10-year-old girl was airlifted to the hospital after she was impaled by part of a brake handle when she fell off of her bike in Medford Friday evening, police said.
According to police, the girl was riding her bike on Willow Court, where she lives, shortly before 6 p.m. when she fell. Part of the bike’s brake handle became lodged in her right thigh, very close to the femoral artery, police said.
Fifth Precinct officers, emergency service officers and the Medford Fire Department responded to the scene and first responders removed the handlebars from the bike, police said. The girl was transported via Suffolk County Police helicopter to Stony Brook University Hospital, where she is listed in stable condition.
