Police: Holbrook Man Drove Drunk With 9-Year-Old Son in Car

Nicholas Ortiz was arrested in Plainview Tuesday night, police say.

A Holbrook man faces a felony DWI charge after Nassau police say he was driving while intoxicated with his 9-year-old in his car.

According to police, Nicholas Ortiz, 46, was driving east on the Long Island Expressway in Plainview Tuesday night when he was observed weaving in and out of his lane by a highway patrol officer.

Ortiz was pulled over and was found to be under the influence of alcohol, police said. His was a passenger in the back seat of the car, police said.

Ortiz was arrested at 10:18 p.m. and the child was released to a family member, police said.

Ortiz is charged with aggravated DWI–a felony under Leandra’s Law–DWI and traffic violations. He will be arraigned on Wednesday in First District Court in Hempstead.
