Police: Man Suffers Minor Burns Trying to Put Out Van Fire in Lake Ronkonkoma

A 53-year-old man was taken to the hospital after suffering a minor injury to his hand while trying to put out a fire in Lake Ronkonkoma Monday morning, police said.

A 2004 Ford van caught fire around 9:13 a.m. in the driveway of a home at 34 Cleary Road, police said.

The van was totaled in the fire and siding on the home was also melted during the blaze, police said.

The man was hurt when he attempted to extinguish the flames before Ronkonkoma firefighters arrived, police said.

No word on what caused the fire.
