Police: Homeless Man Arrested For Lake Ronkonkoma Robberies, Stabbings

All three robberies occurred in a shopping center on Portion Road in June, police say.

A homeless man has been arrested and charged in three armed robberies during which two of the victims were stabbed in Lake Ronkonkoma in June, police said Thursday.

According to police, Jed Stout, 23, approached a 43-year-old-man who was leaving the Wells Fargo ATM, located at 601 Portion Road, on June 24, and demanded money and threatened to cut the man if he refused.

The victim gave his wallet to Stout, who then fled, police said. Stout approached a 64-year-old man at the same ATM shortly before 11 p.m. on June 28 and demanded money, police said. The man refused and Stout stabbed him in the arm with a box cutter and fled, police said.

Just a few hours later, at about 1:40 a.m. on June 29, Stout approached a 75-year-old man, an employee at Pet Supplies Plus who was taking out the garbage in the parking lot of the same shopping center, and demanded money. The employee told Stout he did not have money and then Stout slashed the victim’s face before fleeing on foot, police said.

Following an investigation by Sixth Squad detectives, Stout was arrested and charged with one count of first degree robbery, two counts of first degree attempted robbery and two counts of second degree assault. Stout is scheduled for arraignment Thursday at First District Court in Central Islip.
