'Unauthorized Person' Hit By Ronkonkoma Line LIRR Train In Central Islip

The MTA encouraged LIRR riders to use other lines like the Montauk or Port Jefferson lines.

RONKONKOMA, NY — Metropolitan Transportation Authority officials say an unauthorized person was struck by a Ronkonkoma Branch line Long Island Rail Road train in Central Islip on Thursday night.

The line was suspended between Ronkonkoma and Farmingdale in both directions around 8 p.m., officials announced on Twitter. The suspension of the line disrupted service traveling east from Penn Station to Long Island.

Service was restored at about 8:30 p.m., though officials warned that in addition to the individual trains that have been delayed, there may be scattered delays as MTA police and personnel continue to work near the crash site.
