Here are the top 3 stories in Sachem today:
- Alive After 5 returning in 2022: The popular street festival will return this summer after two years. The Patchogue Chamber has four proposed dates in July and August. This year's Alive After Five will incorporate some elements of last summer's family-friendly Sundown Festival.Alive After Five has historically had live music, beer tents, arts, activities and food trucks and stands. The Chamber will release more details soon, the Chamber of Commerce said. The four dates will be July 14 and 28 and Aug. 5 and 25. (Patch)
- Hazardous weather outlook issued for Long Island: A hazardous weather outlook has been issued for Long Island Thursday into Friday. Today will be warm with temperatures in the mid 40s and rain hitting the area but expect a drop tomorrow. A cold front will move through late Thursday night into Friday with quickly falling temperatures behind its passage. As a result, rain Thursday night will change to a wintry mix from northwest to southeast, with several hours of freezing rain, sleet, and snow. This will lead to ice accretion on any untreated surfaces, making travel hazardous potentially for both the morning and evening commutes on Friday. Additionally, any standing water from rainfall and melting snow will freeze, exacerbating these conditions. (Patch)
- ICYMI: Jets to expand girls flag football league to LI high schools. The Jets and Nike announced the creation of a brand-new high school girls flag football league on Long Island and in New Jersey in honor of National Girls and Women in Sports Day. Eight New Jersey high schools and 16 Long Island high schools will receive an $11,000 grant and equipment from the Jets and Nike for joining the New Jersey High School Girls Flag Football League. Each school will also receive team jerseys from Nike's Girls Flag Football line. Sachem East and Sachem North were selected by the Jets. (Newsday)
