Here are the top stories today in Sachem:

  1. 4th of July fireworks safety guide. It's 4th of July weekend, which means barbeques, parties, and fireworks. Fireworks are a staple of the holiday and even though they're illegal here in New York, it's imperative to follow firework safety if you are going to set them off. Click the link to learn how to stay safe when operating fireworks. (Patch)
  2. Abbreviated work week weather report. We hope you enjoy the long holiday weekend but unfortunately most of us have to go back to work Tuesday. The weather forecast looks great all week, with the only chance of showers being Friday morning. Expect cooler temperatures averaging around 80 for the week. (Weather.com)
  3. Suffolk County reports first Monkeypox case. There have now been 96 cases in New York and 400 in the country. “While the current risk to the general public is low, we urge the public as well as healthcare providers in Suffolk County to be aware that this rare virus has been found in the region and to know the signs and symptoms and manner of transmission of the monkeypox virus,” said Suffolk County Health Commissioner Dr. Gregson Pigott.
