- Suffolk County Government: Coronavirus case update for February 3. COVID-19 numbers continue to decline, and things are looking much better for Long Island, compared to last month's historic surge. 626 new cases were reported. 42.3 cases per 100k; 39.6 on a 7-day average. 5.8% tested positive in Suffolk County; 6.6% positive on a 7-day average. 5.5% tested positive on Long Island; 6.4% positive on a 7-day average. - ICYMI: Hochul's apartment plan decried on Long Island as 'radical'. Lawmakers gathered on Thursday to decry plans by Gov. Kathy Hochul to allow apartments on properties otherwise restricted to single-family zoning, putting an end to local government control over housing on Long Island, they say. Calling Hochul's plans "radical," politicians in Brookhaven Town stretched their hands across the aisle in anger and said that the state is seeking to take zoning control away from local governments, like towns and villages, in turn eliminating residents' ability to voice objections to new apartments at public hearings. - Suffolk Police seeking info on Lake Ronkonkoma ATV thief. Suffolk police are seeking help in finding the person they say stole an All-terrain vehicle in Lake Ronkonkoma last month.
Detectives say a 2020 Yamaha Raptor 700 ATV was stolen from a shed at a home on Greis Avenue on Jan. 25 at about 3:12 a.m., and the person drove away in a red pickup truck. The ATV is worth about $8,800, police said.(Sachem Patch)
