The quickest way to get caught up on the most important things happening today in Sachem.

Good morning, Sachem! It's Wednesday, so let's get you started with everything you need to know going on today in Sachem.

First, today's weather:

Sunny to partly cloudy. High: 41 low: 36.

Here are the top 3 stories today in Sachem:

  1. Union: Deal raises Suffolk crossing guard pay to $18 an hour. Suffolk County has reached a deal with its largest employee union to pay crossing guards $18 an hour. This will be a jump from the $15 guards get now. There are about 430 crossing guards on Long Island, with 60 vacant positions. The pay increase should help fill the open positions. (Newsday)
  2. Potential snow accumulations Super Bowl Sunday. We are watching the potential for up to six inches of snow Sunday to Sunday night. Temperatures will be reaching 50 on Saturday, so make sure you don't put away your shovels just yet. The temp will drop Sunday and snow showers will turn into steady snow into the night. The forecast could obviously change, but we will keep you updated. (Weather.com)
  3. The Suffolk County Department of Health Services highlights black health and wellness this month. The Suffolk County Department of Health Services' Office of Minority Health is collaborating with SUNY Stony Brook, SUNY Suffolk, the Suffolk County Multicultural Advisory Committee, and the Alzheimer's Association of Long Island to highlight black health and wellness throughout Black History Month. "As we celebrate Black History Month, we continue to tackle health disparities and keep equity at the heart of all we do," said Suffolk County Health Commissioner Dr. Gregson Pigott.
