🌱 Sachem Daily: MacArthur Flight Cancellations + Leandra's Law DWI

The quickest way to get caught up on the most important things happening today in Sachem.

(Patch Media)

Hey, neighbors! It's Wednesday in Sachem and I'm back in your inbox to get you caught up on all the most important things happening in town. Because community news matters!

First, today's weather:

Cooler with a shower or two. High: 66 low: 62.

Here are the top 3 stories in Sachem today:

  1. Nokomis students participating in gardening project. Twenty-two students are participating, which brings the classroom outdoors. The students in Joe Pagani's fifth grade class are enjoying the change from normal learning. "There is nothing more authentic than seeing your students create something from the ground up," said Papagni. "Watching them get their hands dirty and taking ownership of their work and the outcome of the garden was the best part of this experience." (Sachem Patch)
  2. Suffolk man is charged with DWI in Holbrook under Leandra's Law. Bayport resident Jean Louissaint, 40, was stopped Sunday shortly after 11 p.m. on Nichols Road when he failed to stay in his lane of travel. He was found to be intoxicated while having his two children in the car and arrested. Sheriff Errol Toulon said, "Suffolk County Deputy Sheriffs are out patrolling our county's roads to keep the public safe. In this case, they not only prevented an intoxicated driver from causing an accident with another driver or a pedestrian, but they potentially saved the life of two children in the vehicle." (Sachem Patch)
  3. Amid pilot shortage, American Airlines cancels service to MacArthur Airport. The announcement came Monday and means the airport will lose one of four airlines that currently fly into the airport. American Airlines released a statement saying, "In response to the regional pilot shortage affecting the airline industry, American Airlines has made the difficult decision to end service. We're extremely grateful for the care and service our team members provided to our customers in Islip, Ithaca and Toledo, and are working closely with them during this time."(Sachem Patch)
