🌱 Sachem Daily: Nor'easter Incoming + Sachem School Protocols
The quickest way to get caught up on the most important things happening today in Sachem.
Good morning, people of Sachem! It's me again, Andrew Tessler, your host of the Sachem Daily.
First, today's weather:
Not as cold, becoming breezy. High: 31 low: 27.
Here are the top 3 stories today in Sachem:
- ICYMI: New COVID-19 Protocols for Sachem Schools as cases spike. Sachem schools have the highest number of cases on Long Island. With that being said, the school district has instituted new COVID-19 protocols. All performances will be suspended until Feb. 1 and sports games will be live streamed where possible. Windows in classrooms and buses will also be cracked open to allow for better air circulation, so students have been advised to dress appropriately. Staffers will also ensure proper mask-wearing on buses and students will be required to sit with their siblings enroute to school. (Sachem Patch)
- Wind, possible flooding with major storm Sunday into Monday. We are due to get hit by a nor'easter tonight into tomorrow and it could bring some serious flooding and 60 MPH winds. The good news is we are spared the snow which could leave multiple feet Northwest of Long Island. Coastal flood watches have been issued across the island. They will be in effect from 5 a.m. to 1 p.m. Monday.
- Suffolk County COVID-19 positivity rate continues decline. In the latest COVID-19 report from the county, the positivity rate continues to decline. As of the Jan 15 report, our positivity rate stood at 19.1%, a much lower number than a week prior where we were on pace to hit 30%. 142 people were discharged from the hospital from the previous day, and hopefully we are past the worst from the highly contagious Omicron variant.
