🌱 Sachem Daily: Ronkonkoma Parade + Drugs and Cash Found In Car

The quickest way to get caught up on the most important things happening today in Sachem.

Happy Sunday, neighbors! Here's what's going on today in town.

First, today's weather:

Breezy with a shower in spots. High: 47 low: 25.

Here are the top 3 stories in Sachem today:

  1. ICYMI: LI Neighborhoods rank in top 25 boozy Instagram posts during COVID-19, according to Rehabs.com. The site that offers drug and alcohol rehab treatment across the country did a study based off Instagram tags and posts. They looked at all posts containing anything alcohol related in New York. Twelve Long Island neighborhoods scored in the top-25 in NY, with Huntington coming in the highest at number 3 in the state. "The study was carried out to gauge how lockdowns and social distancing affected people's consumption of alcohol in each town and city because often, "a high amount of alcohol-related social media posts suggests a problematic relationship with alcohol," a Rehabs.com spokeswoman wrote in an email (Sachem Patch)
  2. Police issue traffic advisory ahead of Ronkonkoma St. Patrick's Day Parade Sunday. Find alternate routes because starting at noon, Patchogue-Holbrook Road will be closed from Ackerly Lane to Portion Road. At 1:45 p.m., Hawkins Avenue from School Street to Express Drive North, as well as Church Street from Hawkins Avenue to Pond Road, and Church Street from Hawkins Avenue to Pond Road will close. Ronkonkoma Avenue from Express Drive North to Weichers Street will close at 2 p.m. when the parade starts. All roads will reopen as normal after the parade at 4 p.m. (Sachem Patch)
  3. Police looking for driver who fled, crashed car with drugs and cash inside. Police saw a Mazda with Georgia plates speeding westbound on the LIE at exit 67 and went to stop the car. While approaching, the car sped away and crashed into a telephone pole on the corner on Falcon Ave in Medford. The passenger ran but was apprehended and the driver is still at large. "The deputies found drugs, including over three grams each of fentanyl and heroin, as well as over six grams of crack cocaine, 14 suboxone pills, "a small quantity" of marijuana, a stun gun, and $3,240 "in the [Mazda] and on the scene," Toulon's office said."
