- Former Sachem High School North teacher and coach honored with New York State United Teachers Humanitarian Award. Matthew "Dezy" DiStefano passed away in 2020 from a rare kidney disease and was honored for creating the DezyStrong Foundation, which has raised thousands of dollars to pay for cancer treatments for patients and to assist their families. "The New York State United Teachers, which recognizes members who make significant humanitarian contributions to their communities, was asked to consider DiStefano by the Sachem Central Teachers Association, led by its president, Philip Barbera." - ICYMI: 4th Of July Grucci Fireworks Display and Concert returns to Bald Hill for first time since 2019. As things get back to normal, the Grucci fireworks show has been staple of normalcy at Bald Hill for the 4th of July. The show goes on and all plans are moving forward for this Summer's show. "John Caracciolo, president and CEO of JVC Broadcasting and Long Island Events, said staffers are working hard to make sure our guests can afford a fun night out and not have to take out a second mortgage. "This is the best entertainment value in the area and even though we lost a lot over the pandemic, our team worked very hard to retain the affordability of the tickets and indeed, keep it available to everybody," he added.
