Hey, everybody. I'm back in your inbox this morning to walk you through everything you need to know about what's happening in Sachem.
First, today's weather:
Partly sunny. High: 83 Low: 67.
Here are the top stories today in Sachem:
- Suffolk County deploys drones to tackle shark problem. There have been three encounters in the past ten days, and County Executive Steve Ballone has deployed drones to patrol the waters for sharks. "This is not something that is precedented in any way in our history in Suffolk County," Bellone said. He added that before the three recent bites, there had not been a shark bite recorded in Suffolk County since Smith Point opened in 1959. (Patch)
- Severe thunderstorm rips through Ronkonkoma Thursday afternoon. A storm that brought hail, heavy winds, and torrential rain quickly tore through Ronkonkoma, leaving a path of destruction. Crews are out this morning taking care of downed power lines, trees, and more. See interviews with residents who were caught in the storm in the link. (CBS New York)
- ICYMI: First Amazon Fresh in New York opens in Oceanside. The state-of-the-art store is all digital, with no human contact necessary. Everything is based off QR codes, but shoppers can still do a self-checkout. "Come in, do your shopping and go," District manager Cory Keller told Patch. "As busy as people are every day, that's what we pride ourselves on, around the freshness and the convenience." (Sachem Patch)
