  1. Sachem North cheerleaders sign petition to change COVID-19 protocols before state championship. In order to compete at the state championship at the Rochester Institute of Technology, all of the competitors need to be vaccinated, as per the school COVID-19 policies.
    Cheerleaders from Sachem North School signed a petition to have the championship moved to another venue or let unvaccinated cheerleaders compete. The online petition has more than 14,000 signatures. A third of the team is unvaccinated, but they have to win the County Championship first in order to compete in the State Championship. (News 12 Bronx)
  2. Sachem weather forecast for the week ahead. Take a look at the weather forecast for the week ahead. We are looking at a real warmup as temperatures will be in the 40s from Tuesday to Friday. Saturday we are going to get a beautiful day as temps will get into the 50s! Get out and enjoy the weather as temperatures will be back in the 30s just in time for Superbowl. (Sachem Patch)
  3. LI man gets 8 months in 'egregious' MTA overtime scheme: Feds. A Holbrook man was sentenced to 8 months in prison after a scheme in which he pocketed hundreds of hours of overtime for the MTA in which he did not work. Thomas Caputo, 56, of Holbrook, previously pled guilty to conspiracy to commit federal program fraud by submitting time reports falsely claiming to have worked hundreds of hours of overtime that he did not work back in August. Caputo was once deemed the highest paid employee of the MTA, with over $200,000 in overtime. (Sachem Patch)
